Your First Jiu Jitsu Class Shouldn't Feel Like Surviving a Shark Tank

Try 2 free classes where you'll actually learn fundamentals - not get thrown to the wolves

You've been thinking about trying jiu jitsu for months.

Maybe years.

But every time you're about to pull the trigger, the same thoughts creep in:

- "What if I'm the only beginner and everyone else destroys me?"

- "What if I don't know what to do and look like an idiot?"

- "What if some blue belt decides to 'test' me and doesn't let go when I tap?"

You've read the horror stories. The gyms where beginners are treated like fresh meat. Where you show up and get told to "just join in" with zero explanation.

That's not how it works here.

At Gracie Humaita, your first class isn't about surviving.

It's about learning.

Here's Exactly What Happens In Your First Class (No Surprises)

→ You'll meet Professor Isaac, a black belt under Royler Gracie, who'll walk you through everything before you ever step on the mat

→ You'll learn the fundamentals in a beginners-focused session - not get thrown into the deep end with advanced students

→ You'll train with other people at your level who are figuring it out too

→ You'll never be paired with someone who treats you like a punching bag (we don't tolerate that here)

→ You'll leave knowing exactly what you did, why you did it, and what comes next

No confusion. No intimidation. No "fake it till you make it."

Just real instruction from someone who remembers what it's like to be brand new.

World-Class Lineage. Down-To-Earth Teaching.

Isaac Morales is a black belt under Royler Gracie.

That means his lineage traces directly back to the Gracie family - the people who invented modern Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

But more importantly?

He's a husband, father, and grandfather. He coaches kids. He knows what it's like to balance training with real life.

He's not here to turn you into a world champion on day one.

He's here to teach you real jiu jitsu in a way that actually makes sense.

"But What If..."

"But I'm not in shape..."

You'll get in shape BY training, not before it.

"But I'm 30+ / 40+ / 50+..."

Good. You'll actually listen to instruction instead of trying to muscle everything. That makes you a better student.

"But I don't know anything about jiu jitsu..."

Perfect. That's exactly who this program is for. We'll teach you from zero.

"But what if I don't have a gi?"

Don't buy one yet. Show up in a t-shirt and athletic shorts for your first class. We have gi's in every size for you to borrow.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear to my first class?

We have loaner gis in every size.

Just bring yourself in comfortable clothes (t-shirt and athletic shorts). When you arrive, we'll get you set up with a gi that fits.

No need to buy anything before you know if you like it.

What should I bring?

Water bottle. That's literally it.

Will I be paired with experienced people who'll destroy me?

No.

Your first class, you'll work with other beginners or someone the instructor specifically trusts to work with new people.

We don't throw fresh students to the wolves. That's how people get hurt and never come back.

What if I'm not in shape / too old / too out of practice?

We have students from their 20s to their 50s. Some are in great shape. Some aren't.

Jiu jitsu isn't about being the strongest or fastest. It's about leverage and technique.

You'll get in shape by training. You don't need to get in shape before training.

What happens in my first class? (Seriously, what actually happens?)

Professor Isaac will meet you before class starts, get you set up with a loaner gi that fits, and show you how to tie the belt.

Then he'll walk you through the basics - mat etiquette, what to expect during class, and answer any questions you have.

During class, he'll teach a technique. You'll drill it with a partner (someone with a higher belt who is also a good teacher).

Then you might do some light positional sparring where you practice what you just learned.

No one's going to crank a submission on you. No one's going to make you feel stupid for not knowing something.

You'll leave sweaty, maybe a little sore, and with a clear understanding of what jiu jitsu actually is.
